Who We Are:
The Association of Professional Orchestra Leaders was founded in 1978 as
a not-for-profit corporation.
Our membership-whose bands are heard at thousands of social, corporate,
and charity events annually-includes most of the Chicago area's prominent
and successful bandleaders. Guided by the APOL Code Of Ethics And Professional
Standards, the organization encourages the highest values of professionalism
and musical excellence.
The APOL's monthly meetings serve as forums for the free exchange of matters
of mutual concern to its members, including; music and musicianship, business
practices, client and employee relations, sales and marketing, and new
technology.
The organization strives to educate the public regarding the value of live
musical entertainment in general, and professional orchestras specifically.
In 1998 the APOL established a Musical Scholarship Fund. Each fall and
spring a committee selects a qualified college music student to receive
an unrestricted cash award.
The APOL hosts an annual dinner dance that is open to its members, the
musical community, and the public. Past events have featured the big bands
of Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Woody Herman and Count Basie.
